The Villa
The house, which technically is in the adjoining village of Tourettes, is ten minutes walk from the centre of Fayence, a short way along Chemin du Beal, a pretty lane of detached villas. It looks and feels like open country round about but there are a surprising number of houses tucked away and hidden by large gardens and hedges.
Wrought iron gates give access to the front of the house with parking for up to three cars. At either side are paths to the rear garden of some 600 sq m of olive trees and other native flora, and alongside the front door is a ‘cave’ containing garden furniture, four bikes, two of them folding types, and other garden games. The door itself opens onto a flight of steps leading down to an atrium style ‘sejour’, or living room, and onto another short staircase leading up to three bedrooms (a double, a twin and a small single), a shower room and a loo. As well as having fans, each room has insect-screened windows. The double height sejour has massive wooden beams with a chandelier suspended from the central one.
Off the living room is the master bedroom and en suite bathroom and the kitchen, pantry and cave. French windows lead out to the terrace, the deck and the pool.
All in all, the house has everything one might need.

Accommodation
4 bedrooms, sleeps maximum of 7 people
Master bedroom - 1 Large Double Bed
Double bedroom - 1 Double Bed
Twin bedroom - 2 Single Beds
Bedroom 4 - 1 Single Bed
The master bedroom on the ground floor is a double with en-suite bathroom and French windows leading out to the garden. There's a chest of drawers in the bedroom and a very large louvred door closet in the bathroom. The other double bedroom is on the first floor with great views and a built-in closet. The 3rd bedroom has twin beds, a large shelving unit and 2 windows looking out over the pool. The 4th bedroom is quite small and probably only suitable for a child. As well as having fans, each bedroom has shutters and insect screened windows. There is a cot and a highchair for our smaller guests. And for the winter months, the house has full central heating and a big open fireplace.

Facilities
Going down the steps, the living room, though one large space, is in three separate sections - a cosy seating area with big open fireplace, an "L" shaped settee and coffee table facing the television, and a dining area to seat 6. Off the sejour is the master bedroom, a double, with an en suite bathroom and French windows to the terrace, thus the house in total sleeps seven in two doubles, a twin and a small single. Also off the sejour is the kitchen, leading to the pantry, and leading then to another cave excavated back into the hillside under the front parking area. There's a fridge, a gas/electric hob and oven, microwave, toaster, iron, washing machine, dishwasher and everything else that might be needed. The gas boiler provides heating and hot water and is in the pantry.
There's lots of storage space - wardrobes, closets and shelves, and plenty of bedding, towels, cutlery, crockery and so forth. The TV (with satellite freeview - including the BBC, ITV, Sky News etc) has an integral DVD player and there is a second TV with integral video and there are over 100 English DVDs/videos ranging from kids cartoons through sports to movies. There's a radio/CD/tape player tuned to the English language Riviera Radio. In total the house is 130sq m internally and is fully equipped for everyday living. Clean linen is provided and the house is also cleaned every change.
French windows lead out to the terrace, the garden and the swimming pool. The house was built, about 30 years ago, into the side of a gently sloping hill (and thus the front door half way up the atrium wall) so the wooden walled pool stands on a base in the garden lower than the terrace and a deck connects the terrace to the top of the pool at the same level. The pool is 5.5m x 3.7m x 1.5m deep with automatic pool alarm and is cleaned and maintained weekly. The terrace has table, chairs and parasol. The garden is private and secure, and generally the location is peaceful yet very close to everything one might need.

Fayence
With a population of around 4500, Fayence is big enough to have quite a few decent shops, restaurants and bars but manages to avoid the rather more frantic lifestyle down on the coast.
It's more relaxed, friendlier and more authentically French. There's a Provencal market 3 days a week, local vineyards offering visits and tastings, regular concerts in the new exhibition hall or in the open air, and lots of nearby galleries, potteries and antique shops. In the valley below, the gliding centre is supposed to be the best in Europe and a good place for a drink or a meal. Even a trial flight. For the golfers the new Terre Blanche course across the valley aims to be one of the best in France and there are other courses nearby at Mandelieu and Cannes. Horse riding is available locally and there are tennis courts at the bottom of the hill for the really energetic. To find out more about the town, please click here.
